Brooke Dexter

Hi! I’m Brooke.

After nearly a decade in Brooklyn, I’ve returned to my home state of Michigan to Detroit. Embedded within the architecture and design industry since attending architecture school at University of Michigan, I’ve always been drawn to the details. Over the years, this has included finessing lineweights in a drawing, bending the precise angle from a pattern for neon, and fine-tuning a machine to be type-high for letterpress printing.

I recently led public relations efforts at Above the Fold, building upon my marketing and communications experience to represent an international roster of firms and talent with a focus on innovative, precedent-setting projects. I was previously the Director of Communications at Field Operations, developing compelling marketing content for the firm’s website, portfolio, social media, and exhibitions along with communications strategy.

I was part of the core team at Field Operations that worked with the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation as part of the Neighborhoods Now initiative and supported community engagement sessions for public park projects. I led four volumes of an office-wide publication at Field Operations, Positions, that stakes out a diverse array of interpretations and values on certain themes, such as “Nature,” “Cities,” “Resilience,” and “Sense.”

I was part of the class of 2021 for the AIANY Civic Leadership Program in which I led a development session on park ownership and operational models in order to better advocate for public parks, and a public event on community-based design. I previously served as Co-Chair for the Marketing Communications Committee of the AIA New York Chapter and Board Member & Communications Manager for the Gowanus Studio Space, an artist studio in Brooklyn.

I hold a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan in addition to a B.S. in Architecture with a minor in Urban & Community Studies. During my time at U of M, I was Editor in Chief for award-winning volumes of the Michiganensian and an editor for Dimensions at Taubman College.
